Tips on buying used domain
This post still covers about domain, after earlier I made a post about used domains/aged domains. And I’ve made around 6-10 used domains and dropped domains, and I think I have learned several tips for you that intended to buy used domains.
This is based on my personal experience buying domains from some of digitalpoints members, so you might find this tips are rather ‘old tips’, but who knows for the rest of you you can avail from this tips, here the tips on buying used domain:
- Domain Age is the first to check, the older the domain the higher the price. Don’t let seller tricks you by saying the cartain domain is bla bla bla years old, check first by yourself, there are many domain checker or you can do it by whois-ing the certain domain.
- Also check current domain registrar renewal price, because several domain registrar charge a lot of bucks for renewal (I cancelled to buy used domain once, because I saw that the renewal price was $35.00 and domain will be expired in 2 days. It’s ok when the domain is worth money, but some want domain temporarily.
- Check whether the domain is indexed by search or not, as I know there is no other better way to check whether domain is banned or penalized by search engine but to check it with the corresponding search engine.
- Check with google adsense preview tool to ensure that the domain is not banned by google adsense, although this is optional but you might have ideas to monetize the domain later after you get it, this is how to check the domain with google adsense preview tool.
- Check whether the domain is listed on major directory such as DMOZ, yahoo, etc or even archive.org. Having links from said directories/websites are plus value because it tend have long terms quality links from reputable website.
- Although it’s hard to find used domain that match to your future website/blog niche, looking the easy to remember domain name is a very good option, however if you cannot find this domain it’s better to use a general name that does not reflect the niche/content at all.
Below is screenshot from the 9 days old domain that have a valid Pagerank of 5. Yes it’s a valid pagerank, but the domain worth for less than $20 because it’s a dropped domain.
